What does an 88 Hupfeld Animatic piano roll look like?

The Hupfeld music rolls with the 88 scale were introduced from 1912 onwards and titled with the registered trademark "Animatic". Anima' derived from 'soul'. These scrolls respond to all 88 notes, and also contain the control information for the fortepedal and melody emphasis (solodant). The paper is 28.6 cm wide.

The boxes of Hupfeld Animatic music rolls are mostly green - often the beginning of the roll is made of green paper. In the case of hand-played Animatic reels, the name and sometimes a photo of the artist is written on the reel. Drawn reels have 'arranged' reels on them, sometimes an 'O' on the box and no pianist's name.

Hupfeld Animatic scrolls can be played on any standard 88 pianola.
