How is Popper's Stella Scale constructed?

In 1908 Hugo Popper brought the reproduction instrument 'Stella' onto the market in Leipzig. It is technically very similar to the Welte-Mignon. However, the roll width and scale is different. We are currently restoring one of the very few Stella pianos still in existence and are also making technical notes, as no documentation has been found on this instrument to date.

The scale of the Popper Stella System has 114 holes in the note sliding block.

The Popper Stella scale has the following assignment (from left to right):

Hole zero:

First hole:

Second hole:

Third hole:

Hole four:

Fifth hole:

Sixth hole:

Seventh hole:

Hole XY-Z

Hole 92:

Hole 93:

Hole 94:

Hole 95:

Hole 96:

Hole 97:

Hole 98:

Hole 100...

The Popper Stella reproduction instrument is of the best quality - it is a pity that it was sold so rarely - and today you can hardly find rolls for it anymore.
