Only very few manufacturers produced so-called conductor's desk pianos - and mostly around 1890-1910. This is one of probably two surviving C. Bechstein conductor's desk pianos from the late phase of piano manufacture around 1930. It has only 4 octaves and was built so that the conductor could stand on a platform and fold out either the desk or the keyboard in order to play passages or accompany during rehearsals. This piano was probably last used by the NDR Radio Orchestra. The piano needs to be restored, as it has suffered greatly both technically and visually.
