Extremely rare today is the Hupfeld DEA reproducing piano push-up player. Although introduced only shortly after the Welte system and technically capable of performances at least equal in quality, it never achieved the commercial success of its competitor from Freiburg. DEA reproducing rolls, featuring outstanding artist recordings, are notable for being the widest of all reproducing piano roll formats, allowing for exceptionally detailed musical reproduction. This particular push-up player was comprehensively restored by an experienced specialist approximately twenty years ago and currently requires only a thorough service and adjustment. Today, Hupfeld DEA push-up players survive in only a handful of museums and private collections, making this example a true rarity and a jewel for any serious collection of reproducing pianos and automatic musical instruments.
