The most important thing for long-lasting enjoyment of playing is, besides the good piano itself, a comfortable and functional seat. Piano teachers and physiotherapists can give valuable tips here. Many famous pianists had very strange seating furniture beyond all reason, most of all probably Glenn Gould with his beloved little chair.

Some have two seats for the piano. A visual highlight and a comfortable favourite. Seating comfort, adjustability, durability and purpose are important.

Only very seldom and on explicit customer request were piano stools or benches included in the decor of the instrument. Most of the seats were ordered from specialist shops even then.

In our experience, a wider, adjustable bench for two people is definitely worthwhile in order to promote joint music-making. We do not recommend stools for small children, as they can tip over too easily - and injure themselves. This is especially true for the older three-legged stools.

For professionals and frequent players, a concert grand piano bench is suitable - these are usually more solidly built, with a larger seat, better upholstery and more comfortable height adjustment.
