When Ludwig Hupfeld took over the Grub company in 1892, these piano-playing apparatuses became the first Hupfeld products, along with the electric pianos with paper rolls and a piano-playing apparatus. Extremely rare to find are these early precursors of the famous Hupfeld Phonola with paper music rolls (from 1902). This piano player plays 36 notes when hand cranked. The instrument is being restored and is then intended for a private museum.
